House M.D debuted on FOX November 16, 2004 as an hour long medical drama, with the protagonist being a truth-seeking, ball-busting, brilliant, sometimes cruel-but usually right, Doctor Gregory House.
The TV series on FOX mixes medical drama with humor and snappy dialog from a small ensemble cast and combines the “walk and talk” camera work with medical special effects that engage the viewer.
House has aired 132 episodes over the past six seasons, and the 7th is scheduled to air in the fall schedule. House actor Hugh Laurie has been nominated for a Best Actor Emmy in 2010.
Summary of House M.D TV Series
Dr. House, his faithful friend Wilson, and his colleagues who are more his pets all work at the fictitious Princeton-Plainsboro hospital in New Jersey, solving complex cases that no one else can handle.
Dr. House has an innate ability to process clues, and has such a keen ability on human nature that he can almost never be one upped, or tricked. The challenges the team faces are often because of controversial observations such as assuming a patient is lying, cheating or using drugs.
House also has a complex and tense relationship with the Hospital administrator Lisa Cuddy. They share a mutual love for each other,that has evolved over the years, though is unconsummated. Cuddy is currently involved with a former friend of House.
House uses a lot of miniature effects, motion control photography and CGI and graphics to take the viewer on a trip throughout the body to wherever the ailment is occurring in the patient.
House is not a show for hypochondriacs as most of the medical mysterious have a simple origination, which can cause someone who is susceptible to be afraid of some of the simple causes of illnesses on the show such as ham, cats and termites.
House MD Trivia
The Original title ideas were Chasing Zebras and Circling the Drain-both medical slang for unusual-obscure cases, and a terminal patient in an irreversible decline. Fortunately they settled on House as a subtle homage to Sherlock Holmes, David Shore is a fan of Sherlock Holmes and there are various connections and references in the show to Sherlock Holmes.
Both House and Holmes had drug addictions, House is addicted to Vicodin, and Holmes was addicted to Cocaine. House’s apartment address was 221 B and is the same address of Holmes, and of course Wilson and Watson have their own character parallels.
The character Gregory House is also inspired by actual real life doctor Joseph Bell the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. Bell would use his powers of observation on random strangers to deduce their recent activities and what they did as an occupation to illustrate his point that medical diagnoses should be made from close observation.
House MD was co-created by David Shore and Paul Attanasio and stars Hugh Lurie, Lisa Edelstein, and Omar Epps. House airs on FOX on Monday nights at 8pm
